Dylan’s Candy Bar began with a mission to “awaken the creative spirit and inner child in everyone,” and their latest in-store virtual reality game takes that dream seriously. Opened December 22nd at the Dylan's Candy Bar location in Union Square, “Playthings” is a 3D experience that adults and children of all ages can enjoy during their visit to the famed candy store.

So What Is It?

“Playthings” is an interactive video game that uses specially designed glasses to create an immersive three-dimensional world for its players. Once users are wearing the glasses, they can use two remote controls to create their own music within the gaming world by tapping on food-shaped instruments (think hotdogs, gummy bears, and just about everything in between!). This game is inclusive of every age group and takes away the competition factor, instead placing a focus on creating new, engaging beats. As for the technology, it’s cutting-edge. Created by Always & Forever Computer Entertainment, “Playthings” is a the first-ever virtual reality game of its kind, and you’ll want to get in on this visually stimulating, snack-centric world while you’re in New York City.

What Else Is There?

Once you’ve made some sweet tunes by playing a couple rounds of “Playthings,” there’s still plenty more to do at Dylan’s Candy Bar. Created in 2001 by Dylan Lauren, Dylan’s Candy Bar merges the worlds of art, fashion, pop culture, and of course, candy. Peruse container after container of tasty treats while taking in the Union Square location’s beloved décor, including a giant lollipop tree and enormous chocolate bunny. You’ll find every sort of sweet here, from old-school classics to trendy new sweets that can be found only at Dylan’s Candy Bar. With over 7,000 edible tempations, the options here feel endless, and no matter what candy you’re looking for, you can bet that it will be somewhere within this candy shop’s colorful walls.

The Union Square location also features a café, so you can nibble on a pastry or two while you’re here, and don’t forget to get a caffeine boost so that you’re ready for another round of “Playthings.” Strawberry cheesecake, peanut butter chocolate, and a  fondue fountain are waiting for you!

How About Souvenirs?

While you’ll want to stock up on edible goodies, Dylan’s Candy Bar also offers a huge selection of long-lasting souvenirs that aren’t for devouring. The shop’s plush pillows (donuts, ice cream cones, and cupcakes) are local favorites, and a playful cosmetic brand offers up the likes of Rock Candy Lip Gloss and Cotton Candy Scented Press-On Nails. Also, be sure to get your hands on some of Dylan’s Candy Bar’s signature travel items, including a swirled Candy Spill Umbrella, colorful Candy Spill Neck Roll Pillow, and a candy inspired Striped Beach Towel.

Who Else Knows About This?

Though only founded 15 years ago, Dylan’s Candy Bar has picked up quite an impressive clientele, including Michele Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Madonna, Janet Jackson, David Beckham, Steven Spielberg, Al Pacino, Hugh Jackman, and Tom Cruise—join the ranks on your next visit to NYC!
