Orchid Show: Chandeliers Opens at New York Botanical Garden

New York City is ready to embrace spring. Treat yourself to a warm, beautiful day trip to visit The Orchid Show: Chandeliers, at New York Botanical Garden. The popular, annual show, is open now through April 19 and is certain to dazzle your senses. 


The elegance of the orchid in its myriad forms returns with a display unlike any other. Explore an expanded showcase of hanging designs inside the Haupt Conservatory before stepping outside to enjoy a complementary schedule of events and activities. Inspired dance performances, poetry, hands-on orchid care demonstrations, and shopping fill the daylight hours.

Exhibit highlights

*For the duration of the exhibit, enjoy special Poetry Walks through the Leon Levy Visitor Center and Perennial Garden to read orchid-inspired poems selected by poet Deborah Landau. On March 7, Landau will reach poems from her book, Orchidelirium, which won an Anhinga Prize for Poetry. Advance tickets recommended. 

*Ballroom's Best: Tango, Waltz, and Cha-Cha-offered Saturdays and Sundays, plus Monday, April 6; 1pm & 3pm *Exceptions March 7, at 1pm & 3:30pm and March 21 at 11:30am & 1 pm. Dancers from Ballet Hispanico's BHdos troupe lead audiences through dances such as the waltz, tango, mambo, and cha-cha—each one gorgeously costumed and choreographed. 

*On Sat., March 21, there will be a film screening of Vanilla: The Sacred Orchid (3pm, 3:30pm, 4pm).

*A variety of Orchid classes, caring for, even photographing orchids, will be given.

*For a romantic evening, bring a date to one of NYBG's popular Orchid Evenings. Enjoy music, cocktails, and sublime beauty. Dates for Orchid Evenings are Saturdays, March 7, 14, 21, 28, and April 4, 11, 18; Thursday, March 19 (LGBT Night); and Friday, April 17 6:30pm–9pm (Conservatory entry times at 6:30pm, 7pm, & 7:30pm). Admission to this event is $35. While taking in the elegance of the show, stop for quick lipstick touch-ups by one of Guerlain's famed make-up artists, and indulge in a specialty cocktail inspired by Guerlain's Orchidée Impériale line. Dine at The Pine Tree Café and lounge to the sounds of a live band.
