CG: Jeannette Bayardelle Leads SHIDA at Birdland 8/15

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to present a Concert Presentation of Jeannette Bayardelle in SHIDA - A New Musical on Monday, August 15 at 7pm.

SHIDA tells the inspiring story of one woman who overcomes tragedy to discover triumph. Based on a true story, this new one-woman musical follows the journey of a young African-American girl living in the Bronx who aspires to become a writer. Due to the adversity Shida faces in her life, her dream starts to slowly fade. But through friendship, support, and love, she is able to rise above her greatest challenges and discover a new life of possibility. Set to a soulfully contagious score featuring rock, jazz, rhythm and blues, and gospel, SHIDA is a story of hope and empowerment.

SHIDA features book, music, and lyrics by NAACP Theater Award winner Jeannette Bayardelle (The Color Purple; Hair). This inspiring new musical is directed by Tony Award-winning producer Andy Sandberg (Hair; The Last Smoker in America). SHIDA is a tour-de-force that takes us through Shida's powerful, funny, and touching story, portraying multiple different roles. Musical direction is by Clay Bogan III.

Jeannette Bayardelle has been seen on Broadway in Hair (Dionne), and The Color Purple (Celie). Off Broadway: Best of Both Worlds (Serena). Tours (National/International): The Color Purple (Celie), Deaf West's Big River (Alice), Rent (Season Soloist), Sister Act (musical revue). Regional: Best of Both Worlds (Serena). Film: "Disney's Little Mermaid III." Awards: NAACP Theater Award (best lead Actress in a Musical) for the role of Celie in The Color Purple.
