Jon Stewart to Chair 9/11 Memorial 5K Run/Walk

The Daily Show host Jon Stewart will serve as the honorary chairman of the third annual 9/11 Memorial 5K Run/Walk and Family Day, on Sunday, April 26. Proceeds from the event will support the Memorial and Museum.

"The 5K Run/Walk and Family Day is a great annual event that allows us to band together in support of the Memorial's mission to commemorate the nearly 3,000 lives lost on 9/11 and honor the heroism and sacrifice of the first responders and rescue and recovery workers," 9/11 Memorial President Joe Daniels said. "We are thrilled to have 9/11 Memorial Board Member Jon Stewart as our event's honorary chairman. He is a leading voice for this city and in this country, and a longtime supporter of our institution and the men and women behind the recovery and rebuilding of the World Trade Center."

"As a New Yorker who witnessed the rebuilding of a devastated community after 9/11, I understand the importance of supporting the 9/11 Memorial's mission," said 9/11 Memorial Board Member and 5K Run/Walk Honorary Chairman Jon Stewart. "The Run/Walk and Family Day is a simple way for all of us to come together to champion this important cause." This is the second year Stewart has served as chairman of the event to help spread awareness and to support the Memorial and Museum.

The 5K Run/Walk will kick off at Pier 26 and run along Battery Park City, with views of One World Trade Center. For the first time, participants of the 5K Run/Walk will receive a 25 percent discount on Museum admission, valid all day after the event. Family Day will take place after the Run/Walk on Greenwich Street between Cortland and Albany streets. This free community event will include food, music and activities for all ages. Registration is not required for Family Day.
