Mad Men Prepares for Sendoff with Events in NYC

Mad Men, the AMC series about the advertising executives of NYC’s Madison Avenue during their sixties/seventies heydey, is preparing for its seventh and final season, beginning April 5. The Primetime Emmy-award winning show, created by Matthew Weiner, is amping up for a sendoff in style, with a blizzard of events around New York City and the country. Here are the NYC highlights.

*The Museum of the Moving Image will be hosting a huge Mad Men exhibit, March 14-June 14, in addition to a variety of related events, leading up to and during the show's final season.  The exhibit will feature large-scale sets including Don Draper’s office and the Draper Kitchen, over 25 iconic costumes, hundreds of props, advertising art, video clips, and personal notes and research material from Weiner, who will be speaking at the Museum March 20.

*The Film Society of Lincoln Center (FSLC) will host Mad Men: The End of An Era, a celebration that looks back with the cast at their favorite scenes throughout the years. The evening will include a conversation with Weiner, as well as stars Jon Hamm, January Jones, Christina Hendricks, John Slattery and Vincent Kartheiser, at Alice Tully Hall on Saturday, March 21 at 7:30pm.

*The Museum of Jewish Heritage will celebrate Mad Men with a public program featuring Matthew Weiner speaking at the museum on March 29 about the evolution of Jewish identity on the show. The program ties into the Museum’s upcoming exhibition, Designing Home: Jews and Midcentury Modernism, opening March 31.

*The Brooklyn Academy of Music will host Mad Men at the Movies, a two-day film festival on Wednesday, April 22 and Thursday, April 23. Each night, the series will include a discussion with a cast member or Weiner about the films and their significance to Mad Men.

*The 92nd Street Y will be hosting several events in the spring, including an interview with Weiner April 28.

*The apex of Mad Men’s New York celebrations will take place shortly after the series wraps, with a special installment of LIVE from the NYPL, The New York Public Library's popular event series. Weiner will be the guest speaker, May 20.
