Pope Francis Packs Busy Schedule for NYC Visit

Pope Francis, who will be travelling to the United States Sept. 22-27 for the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia, will also be making stops in New York City on Thursday, Sept. 24, with a mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral at 6:45pm, and all day Friday, Sept. 25 at the United Nations, Madison Square Garden (6pm mass), Our Lady Queen of Angels School in East Harlem, Central Park on his PopeMobile (a specially designed Jeep Wrangler, riding through approx. 5pm) and the National September 9/11 Memorial & Museum, where he will give an 11:30am interfaith service.

“Pope Francis’ visit to the Memorial and Museum will be a special moment for our city,” former Mayor and 9/11 Memorial Chairman Michael R. Bloomberg said in a statement.

"We are deeply honored to welcome one of the world's most respected figures to the Memorial and Museum. This visit is another powerful example of the significance global leaders are placing on coming to this sacred ground," said 9/11 Memorial President Joe Daniels.

The cram packed agenda will also include a White House meeting with President Barack Obama, plus mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC, and at the Cathedral Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul in Philadelphia, PA.

Some transporation udpates:

*There will be some road closures; the subway is your best bet. MTA will boost trains to accommodate crowds.

*At Penn Station, Long Island Rail Road on Friday (9/25) afternoon will run an extra eight Penn Station-bound trains.

*Also on Friday, the Metro-North will run three additional Grand Central-bound trains on the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven lines.

*For those travelling from New Jersey on Friday, PATH trains will have extra service on the Journal Square-33rd Street and Hoboken-33rd Street lines. The World Trade Center PATH station will stay open.

*NJTransit will run additional bus service on New York-bound routes on Thursday and Friday.
