NEW YORK, NY - Corio proudly presents a dazzling new weekly revue, This is Burlesque. With a nod to the speakeasy era, downtown "King of Comedy" Murray Hill, neo-burlesque star Angie Pontani, The WorldFamous Pontani Sisters and others deliver a stage show like no other in an intimate lounge atmosphere – creating a total New York nightlife experience. Performances began October 11, 2007 and the show has been drawing wildly diverse capacity crowds ever since.

This is Burlesque is an uproarious and racy evening, with bodacious beauties and sultry singers taking center stage. Set to swingin’ music, the show features performances by legendary host and renowned comedian Murray Hill, the Italian Stallionette and reigning Miss Cyclone Angie Pontani, the tapping tornado Helen Pontani, the delinquent darling of burlesque and the fastest tassel twirler from east to west Peekabo Pointe, The World Famous Pontani Sisters and the divine songstress Melody Sweets, with frequent guest appearances by fabulous downtown favorites. Harking back to boozy speak-easy nights, Tin Pan Alley and vaudeville, this show pays homage to the magic and roots of burlesque. After years of touring and starring in numerous productions, Murray Hill and Angie Pontani join forces in show that really packs a punch – This is Burlesque. No two shows are alike, as Murray Hill’s signature improvisation runs wild and the performers get up close and personal with the audience each night – delivering top-caliber acts in a truly intimate environment. And this show literally raises the bar on entertainment, with the shots flowing freely at an on-stage bar during intermission.

As New York nightlife continues to struggle with cabaret laws, an influx of mega-clubs and other challenges, Corio provides a much-needed nightlife alternative. It offers an upscale, intimate setting that is also comfortable and fun – where guests aren't hassled with velvet ropes or pretentious policies. This venue delivers something vital and new: a total nightlife experience where audiences can revel in the atmosphere and be dazzled by the show. Murray Hill "the hardest-working middle-age man in show business" is a beloved entertainer, personality, newsmaker, comedian and host. He tirelessly performs in shows, films, videos, comedy clubs and on TV in his native New York and around the world. His smash-hit The MurrayHill Show, "a New York institution" (The New York Times), played over 5 sold-out years. Currently, he can be seen strutting his stuff in The Gossip video for "Listen Up" and this past year was on national TV (LOGO) with his segment "Year-end Review in Showbiz." He has performed for Penelope Cruz & Pedro Almodovar, hosted an Antony & The Johnsons concert, enjoyed a cameo in John Cameron Mitchell's Shortbus, performed two SRO nights at London's Bloomsbury Ballroom and was inducted into PAPER Magazine's Nightlife Hall of Fame. He has produced, written and starred in sold-out theatrical runs, including his infamous annual holiday show A Murray LittleChristmas and performed comedy at The Upright Citizens Brigade, Madison Square Garden, Gotham Comedy Club, Comix and headlined Murray on Broadway at the legendary Caroline's. In summer 2005, Murray made his West End/UK debut in a 4-week run. He also appeared in Montreal in a run at the Just for Laughs Theater. Honors: Fly Life Award (2007), Glammy Award (2007), GO

Magazine award and named OUT Magazine's Top Performer of the Year, and "Best of New York" by The Village Voice, PAPER Magazine, GO Magazine and New York Magazine. Bedazzled Brooklyn Bombshell Angie Pontani is one of today’s most sought after burlesque performers. Her classic style, contemporary edge, impeccable costuming, choreography and physique make her the "go-to gal" on the scene. She has performed her signature acts around the world – from Scotland to Spain, Australia to Amsterdam, and Coney Island to Los Angeles. Angie wows audiences everywhere she goes, and has attracted high-profile fans such as Sting, Anthony Kiedis, Taryn Manning and Adriana Lima. Beyond her stage work, Angie has proven herself a bombshell with brains, producing hundreds of events including The Burlesque-a-Pades national tour, the annual New York Burlesque Festival and co-producing The Holiday Pageant and the international 1960s-themed Twist Party Tour, among others. She has created custom acts & productions for Target, Dos Equis, The Venetian Las Vegas, The Fox 5 Super Bowl Party, sexualwellbeing.com, Queer Eye For the Straight Guy, The Esquire House and more.

Angie has appeared on national TV’s "Late Night with Conan O’Brien" and the new hit "Gossip Girl" and penned columns for Allure and Cosmopolitan. Recently, she starred in the Italian short "The World Famous Pontani Sisters" which premiered at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival and was awarded Italy's David di Donatello Award. In 2007, Angie was awarded the title "Miss Cyclone" in honor of the Coney Island landmark and was chosen to toss the opening pitch at the Cyclone's Key Span Park baseball stadium during this year's Siren Music festival (which she proudly did wearing 4-inch heels).

This is Burlesque is written by Murray Hill & Angie Pontani. Choreography by Angie Pontani. This is Burlesque plays at Corio (337 West Broadway at Grand Street): Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8pm. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets are $25. Ticket purchases can be made online at http://smarttix.com
