There are burger specials, and then there is the Million Dollar Burger. From March 15th through April 12th, 2016, the bar at Morton's The Steakhouse will be hosting a hamburger like no other. The bite begins with prime beef (naturally), then gets topped with black truffle butter, braised short ribs, and foie gras. A brioche bun ties it all together, and there are fries on the side.
The Million Dollar Burger comes in a special pairing with Raymond Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Primal Cut, a fine red from one of the premier vineyards in Napa. The price together is $45—a tasty discount off the $1,000,000 sticker price.
Though known primarily for their excellent steaks, glorious lobsters, and the roughly one gazillion power lunches they've hosted, Morton's was actually founded on the strength of their hamburger. It all goes back to when Morton's future co-founders Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch were working at the Playboy Club in Montreal. While preparing a new menu, chef Fritsch prepared a burger that made Morton rush to the kitchen and exclaim that it was the best he'd ever tasted. They dubbed it the "Million Dollar Burger." Taste it and you'll see: Fritsch and Morton were lowballing it.
