New York City is not only home to great cultural institutions, shops and events; it's also a place where there are plenty of things to do outside. If you're looking for ways to enjoy New York's beautiful summer weather, we've got some great suggestions for things you can do outdoors?from New York parks and outdoor cafes to flea markets, sporting events, and street fairs. Here are some of our favorite things to do in NYC this week that will get you out of the house!

Teddy Bear Fest - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo
August 15, 2010 -

Bring your favorite teddy bear friend to the Zoo! This "beary" fun day also will feature children's crafts and storytelling focusing on Bear Awareness and the facts about real bears. FREE admission for children under age 12 who bring their teddy bear to the "Teddy Bear Clinic" and are accompanied by a paying adult.

Wonders of Wildlife - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo
Through August 15, 2010 -

Come on over and meet some the world's most fascinating animals! Explore exotic places like deserts, rain forests, wetlands and even Connecticut's backyard forests while learning about the amazing adaptations that allow animals to call those places home. Presented at the Zoo's Learning Circle, this event is FREE with Zoo admission.

Evening Lecture Series: Topic TBD - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo
August 18, 2010 -

This lecture, taking place in the Hanson Exploration Station, is part of the Evening Lecture Series, sponsored by Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo Volunteer Association. Admission is FREE with donations gratefully accepted. Refreshments will be served.

Animal Tales - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo
Through August 20, 2010 -

Visit us for story time, a special craft and even an animal encounter each weekday. All activities are free with the purchase of Zoo admission. Families with children under age 6 are welcome.

Wonders of Wildlife - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo
Through August 22, 2010 -

Come on over and meet some the world's most fascinating animals! Little Shelter's Pet-A-Palooza - Little Shelter Animal Rescue
Through August 22, 2010 -

Join Little Shelter for a fun-filled weekend that includes food, entertainment, search & rescue displays, rescue groups, giveaways, dog contests, kid's games, Little Shelter "Pets on Parade", a huge Chinese Auction, & hundreds of adoptable animals. If you are considering adding a dog or cat to your home, Pet-A-Palooza is a great place to start your search. A Blessing of the Animals will commence at 3pm on Sunday, Aug 22nd. Everyone is welcome to bring their pets to the shelter.

'Everyone is a Kid' at the Zoo! - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo
Through August 31, 2010 -

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo announces “Everyone is a Kid” pricing from August 16 through August 31, 2010. This special admission promotion allows every adult Zoo visitor (12 and older) to pay the children’s admission price of just $9.00 per person. The Zoo recently welcomed three bald eagles into a brand new exhibit space, 14 baby Guinea Hog piglets and a baby North American River Otter to the Zoo family. Visitors to the Zoo also will enjoy “Wonders of Wildlife,” an interactive educational program, running twice daily Wednesdays through Sundays including Labor Day at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is open daily from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Children under 3 years old are free. Members of the Zoo are also admitted free. Parking at the Zoo is free of charge. Penguins - Maritime Aquarium
Through December 31, 2010 - Norwalk

Come fall in love with the new colony of African penguins in a new outdoor exhibit, offering views above and below the water.
