The xx, Chairlift, & Jack Peñate - Central Park Mainstage
August 08, 2010 -

Breakthrough indie favorites bring the soulful magnetism of their dreamy elecropop to the stage. Presented in association with Meanred Productions. The xx are making a quick ascension to pop fame with their dreamy, post-punk songs. The British band's 2009 debut, simply titled xx, caught the attention of music critics and fans alike, which lead to sold out tour dates around the globe, as well as wide-spread acclaim. NPR says, "Both casually cool and absolutely magnetic, this young London (band) makes music that’s simple and raw, but utterly captivating." Chairlift formed in 2006 to make music for haunted houses (!), but has since abandoned that mission to make cleverly seductive psych-pop instead. Best known for their song "Bruises," Chairlift is part of a collaborative circle of Brooklyn experimental pop magicians including MGMT, Yeasayer, Telepathe, and Class Actress. UK singer/songwriter Jack Peñate pieces together a collage of up-tempo sounds from a myriad of influences. Rolling Stone describes Peñate's sophomore release, 2009's Everything is New, as "a more mature album... that jumps from classic soul to Afropop to Tropicalia with a rock undercurrent. As advertised, everything is new this time around for the twenty-four year old soul-singing Brit rocker." Presented in association with Meanred Productions.

General Admission Seating – First Come, First Seated. Doors 6pm, Show 8pm. $27.50 adv, $32 door. VIP Booth for 4: $190 // VIP Booth for 6: $285. It all started when five hard-rockin' kids from the San Francisco Bay Area joined forces in the early 80s to form Night Ranger. Like no other 80s rock band, Night Ranger both epitomized and transcended the sound and style of that decade. Early on, their sing-along rock songs and good looks packed clubs and theaters drawing the attention of legendary promoter Bill Graham. Soon Night Ranger was appearing in concert with major artists but it wouldn't be long before they were headlining their own ARENA shows. Night Ranger's debut album Dawn Patrol hit the charts hard, going instantly Top 40 with the, now anthemic single, "Don't Tell Me You Love Me". Night Ranger left an indelible mark with a string of best-selling albums that sold more than 16 million copies worldwide. The band's popularity was fuelled by an impressive string of instantly recognizable hit singles and signature album tracks, including "Sister Christian," "(You Can Still) Rock In America," "When You Close Your Eyes," "Sentimental Street," "Goodbye" and the afore mentioned "Don't Tell Me You Love Me." Harnessing the frenetic drive of heavy metal to hook-laden rock songs, throwing in a stunning twin lead guitar team, and melodious, radio-friendly power ballads, Night Ranger inspired new descriptive phrases such as "melodic metal" and "metal power pop". They became the standard-bearer of a new sound.
