Pet Awareness and Adoption Day - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo
May 14, 2011 -

Join the Zoo for our 2nd annual Animal Adoption Day. Together with several animal adoption and rescue organizations, you’ll learn about the wonderful animals we live with every day - our pets! We’ll have presentations on pet care and safety, crafts for the kids and other surprises. Canine search and rescue demonstrations will take place on “Training the Canine Hero.” Take part and learn about caring for your family's best friend.

Azalea Garden Grand Opening - New York Botanical Garden
Through May 15, 2011 -

Usher in the grand opening of the new Azalea Garden with the second of two festival weekends. This 11-acre site offers an encyclopedic collection of the world's azaleas planted along a broad hillside punctuated by rock outcrops and shaded by mature native trees. Nearly 3,000 azaleas and rhododendrons expand the core collection established in the 1930s. Noon-6pm. Closed Mon.

The Butterfly Conservatory - American Museum of Natural History
Through May 27, 2011 -

Celebrating its 13th year, this highly popular wintertime destination flourishes in 80-degree temperatures and features up to 500 hovering iridescent butterflies, blooming tropical flowers, and lush green vegetation. The Butterfly Conservatory transforms the iciest winter day into a magical escape into summer. Shimmering, multicolored butterflies gently flutter by visitors' upturned faces, land atop their heads, or perch upon their shoulders.

National Geographic Crittercam: The World Through Animal Eyes - Mystic Aquarium
Through December 31, 2011 -

Swim through tropical landscapes with turtles, dive beneath the ice with penguins and forage in the forest with a family of bears — experience life as animals do in a new exhibition opening February 9, 2011 at Mystic Aquarium. Through interactive displays, firsthand footage and evocative environments, visitors to the exhibit can explore the many stories and animals that are part of the science and adventure of Crittercam. The exhibit focuses on Crittercam’s deployment on seals and sea lions, sharks, sea turtles, whales, penguins, bears and lions.
