Things to do this week in NYC Nov 24-Dec 1: MusicNovember 24, 2012 - by CG Directory Editor

Sebastian Bach's most recent billboard chart topping solo album, Kicking and Screaming, was met with universal acclaim and praise. Far from just being a multi-platinum recording artist, the singer/songwriter/actor/entertainer has expanded his career over the past decade to include episodic television with a 5-season recurring role on the CW's hit series "Gilmore Girls", starring roles on Broadway ("Jekyll & Hyde", "The Rocky Horror Picture Show") and national touring companies ("Jesus Chris Superstar"), and has appeared regularly on MTV and VH1. JIMI HENDRIX 70th BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE - BB Kings Blues Club and Grill
Jimi Hendrix documentary filmmaker and promoter David Kramer returns to B.B. King Blues Club & Grill to present his seventh annual Jimi Hendrix Birthday Tribute Concert. It's hard to believe Jimi Hendrix would have been 70 years old this year! This year's lineup of performers includes: Randy Hansen - Without a doubt one of the premiere Hendrix afficionados on the planet, Randy Hansen has been paying homage to Jimi Hendrix for over 30 years. Leon Hendrix - Brings the VooDoo to the table! "I never stood in Jimi's shadow, Jimi kept me in the shade," says Jimi's brother Leon. Gil Parris - Grammy Nominated Guitar Virtuoso has backed people like Joe Cocker, Dr. John, Bobby Caldwell, and Diane Schur just to name a few. Ducks Can Groove - Direct from Sweden, this band always does justice to the Hendrix catalogue. Lead guitarist Stefan Edfeldt's Hendrix drenched solos lean toward the direction Hendrix was headed in 1970 with a funky jazz fusion as exemplified in their last two CD's of original material. Andre Lassalle - The musical Director for the evening has recorded with Miles Davis, performed with members of P-Funk, Vernon Reid, Bobby Womack, Don Covay, the Ghetto Fighters, Buddy Miles, Frank Marino, etc. He presently tours with Burnt Sugar. Patrick Stanfield Jones - From Teaneck, NJ, growing up neighbors with the Isley Brothers, Patrick has played guitar with the Isley Bros. and Buddy Miles, as did Hendrix himself.

From the circus-like feel of Machine Elves, to the soft and heartfelt In My Mind, to the full-on ballsy hard rock of Stripper, one would find it very difficult to tie Machine Elves down to a particular genre. Incorporating the use of various mind-bending effects, solid rhythms, wacky lead guitar lines, and even a Megaphone, Machine Elves keeps it interesting while staying true to their rock roots.

B.B. King - B.B. King Blues Club & Grill
His reign as King of the Blues has been as long as that of any monarch on earth. Yet B.B. King continues to wear his crown well. At age 76, he is still light on his feet, singing and playing the blues with relentless passion. Time has no apparent effect on B.B., other than to make him more popular, more cherished, more relevant than ever. Don't look for him in some kind of semi-retirement; look for him out on the road, playing for people, popping up in a myriad of T.V. commercials, or laying down tracks for his next album. B.B. King is as alive as the music he plays, and a grateful world can't get enough of him.

FUTURE & ACE HOOD - Highline Ballroom
Busting out of Atlanta in 2011 with his hit street track "Tony Montana," rapper Future grew up in Atlanta's Zone 6 section. Born Nayvadius Cash, hip-hop was in his family, as his cousin was producer Rico Wade. It was his local crew who gave him his moniker, dubbing him "The Future of Rap," something the nation got to experience in 2010 when he partnered with Gucci Mane for the mixtape Free Bricks. Ace Hood's hot new single "Cash Flow" featuring T-Pain and Rick Ross is currently blazing the radio waves everywhere.
SOUTHSIDE JOHNNY & THE ASBURY JUKES - B.B. King Blues Club & Grill
"There's one thing I've always wanted to do," Southside Johnny confesses, "and that is to sing." And he has been doing just that for over a third of a century. In a business where success is defined as getting a second single and longevity measured in nano-seconds, just surviving for more than 30 years is a rare accomplishment. But Johnny and the Jukes have not just survived - they have flourished. They've produced over thirty albums, several EPs and a box set. They've given thousands of live performances around the globe. They boast a legion of dedicated and enthusiastic fans, dozens of classic songs, and a record, Hearts of Stone (1978), that Rolling Stone named one of the Top 100 Albums of the '70s and '80s. In short, they have it all.

Traveling the miles along a star-kissed path, the first break came early for D.C.'s ska darlings, when they landed a 1992 tour opening for ska originals, Bad Manners. In 1997, Rancid's Tim Armstrong signed them to Hellcat/Epitaph where they recorded two albums with producer Brett Gurewitz (Bad Religion): the genre-defining Willis (SPIN Magazine called it "An equal opportunity dancehall crasher — part '60s keg rock, part 2Tone and part Motown") and Awesome Mix Tape #6 (CMJ noted it for "lacing a Stax shout-out feel with Caribbean rhythms").
