WCS Run for the Wild - New York Aquarium
October 09, 2011 - New York

Get ready to make tracks for turtles at the Wildlife Conservation Society's very first Run for the Wild at the New York Aquarium. This 5K run/walk takes place along Brooklyn's storied boardwalk to help save endangered turtles and other wildlife. Your registration fee includes free all-day access to the New York Aquarium and a free commemorative t-shirt for this inaugural event. Fundraisers of all levels can also qualify for a host of great new prizes, including a water bottle, a soft plush turtle, a commemorative hat and up-close encounters with the aquarium's resident sea lions!

Fall Flowers of Japan - New York Botanical Garden

Autumn's splendor comes alive with magnificent fall-flowering plants from Japan. Immerse yourself in the celebration of Japanese culture with enchanting traditional dance and music, intricate kiku, and much more. Through October 30.

The Haunted Pumpkin Garden - New York Botanical Garden
Through October 30, 2011 - Bronx

Halloween fun every day and hundreds of intricately carved pumpkins return once again to the Adventure Garden. On five spooky weekends, experience the thrills and chills of the season with a garden full of bugs, bats, parties, and parades. It's so much fun, it's scary!

National Geographic Crittercam: The World Through Animal Eyes - Mystic Aquarium
Through December 31, 2011 -

Swim through tropical landscapes with turtles, dive beneath the ice with penguins and forage in the forest with a family of bears — experience life as animals do in a new exhibition opening February 9, 2011 at Mystic Aquarium. Through interactive displays, firsthand footage and evocative environments, visitors to the exhibit can explore the many stories and animals that are part of the science and adventure of Crittercam. The exhibit focuses on Crittercam’s deployment on seals and sea lions, sharks, sea turtles, whales, penguins, bears and lions.

Writing the Garden will feature works by remarkable gardeners who wrote with great knowledge and deep passion stemming from their love of nature, plants, and horticulture.
