Roxette will perform at New York's famed Beacon Theatre on September 2. 2011 was an amazing year for Roxette with a fantastic world tour and the great success of the new album "Charm School". During the first nine months of their world tour they have played to over 800,000 fans at 79 concerts in 31 countries. In its fourth year, New York's Electric Zoo will again be held over Labor Day Weekend on Randall's Island. The festival will include dozens of of the biggest names in electronica including Steve Aoki, Skrillex, Benny Benassi, David Guetta, Tiesto and many more. Ferries travel to and from Randall's Island Park for all three days of the festival throughout the day. Departures will take place from East 35th Street Ferry Landing located at the intersection of East 35th Street at the FDR Drive, with ferries running approximately every 15 minutes.

One of Jamaica's much-loved child stars, Beenie Man's recording career began in 1981, when he dropped his debut single "Too Fancy." He spent the next decade honing his craft beside dominant dancehall figures like Shabba Ranks, Admiral Bailey, and Ninjaman before beginning his ascent to true reggae stardom in the early '90s, giving an acclaimed performance at Reggae Sunsplash in 1992 and clinching his first No. 1 single in Jamaica with "Mattie" in 1993. He also won the first of eight consecutive DJ of the Year Awards the same year.

On February 2nd, 1959, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.B. "The Big Bopper" Richardson performed at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. The plane crash that occurred hours later claimed the lives of all three artists and changed music history forever. Using information gathered from documentaries, books, and the memories of musicians at the show, tonight's concert will recreate Holly's last show with utmost accuracy and attention to detail. Featuring classic songs like "That'll Be The Day," "Peggy Sue," "It's So Easy," "La Bamba," "Oh Donna," and "Chantilly Lace," and more.

Winners from the beginning of the season square-off at the Top Dog competition. Tonight, which one of our contestants will move one step closer to the winning title of Super Top Dog and the cash prize of $10,000! Aspiring musicians, singers, dancers, comedians, rappers and spoken word artists try their best to please the audiences that can make them an Apollo legend. Then get ready to cheer or jeer as you decide who stays and who gets booted off stage. At Amateur Night, you tell the performers to be good or be gone! Amateur Night at the Apollo is hosted by the comedian Capone. Each show begins with a festive pre-party featuring video and music by DJ Jess. And keep a lookout for master impressionist C.P. One of Canada's most successful progressive rock bands, Saga has built up a loyal audience for its sophisticated music. Originally known as The Pockets, the quintet formed in 1977 from the nucleus of popular Canadian rock band Fludd. In June 1978, the band released its self-titled debut album. A modest success in Canada, it would eventually sell over 30,000 copies in Germany as an import. The band's 1979 follow-up Images at Twilight spawned the group's first hit in Canada with the lead single "It's Time," peaking at No. 84 in the Canadian Charts. Saga's subsequent string of releases throughout the first half of the '80s enjoyed critical acclaim, and the single "On the Loose" from Worlds Apart (1981) saw the band break through into the American music scene. Subsequent American hits included "Wind Him Up" and "The Flyer."

NEW RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE - B.B. King Blues Club & Grill

The New Riders of the Purple Sage, signed to Columbia Records by Clive Davis, released its eponymous first album in September 1971 to widespread acclaim. In the next 11 years the band toured and released over 12 albums, selling over 4 million records. NRPS began as a part-time spin-off from the Grateful Dead when Jerry Garcia (pedal steel guitar), Phil Lesh (bass) and Mickey Hart (drums) teamed up with John Dawson (guitar, vocals) and David Nelson (guitar). Although early live appearances were viewed as an informal warm-up to the main attraction, the group quickly established an independent identity through the strength of Dawson's original songs.

For centuries, the African desert town of Agadez has served as a converging point for the great camel caravans driven by the Tuareg people that link West Africa with North Africa and the Mediterranean. Born in 1980 at a nomadic camp near this dusty outpost, the young guitarist and songwriter Omara "Bombino" Moctar was raised during an era of armed struggles for Tuareg independence and violent suppression by government forces. He spent his childhood learning the survival skills necessary to a nomadic lifestyle. When he was barely 12 years old, his family took refuge in Tamanrasset, Algeria, to escape the hostilities related to the outbreak of the first Tuareg rebellion. In that same year, he picked up his first guitar.

85th is a hip-hop collective that got its start in Woodhaven, Queens. The group consists of rappers 21 Quest, Eleagle, Matt Cronin, and DGoD, along with producer Ken-I. Together, these rappers incorporate into their music influences from poetry, spoken word, battle rapping, and music showcases. 85th has performed at The Apollo Theater, Webster Hall, CUNY and SUNY Colleges, and right here at B.B. King Blues Club. The outfit also recently opened up for Slum Village at The Knitting Factory, flew to Germany for the Bronx/Berlin Connection, made it to the finals of the Knicks Poetry Slam, and were featured on the MSG Channel. In other words, these guys have been keeping busy. Join the greatest unsigned rappers from Queens tonight as they celebrate the release of their latest album.

Bob Mould and Richard Morel's Blowoff is a DJ event that has become a premier destination for a wide cross-section of appreciative music fans. Originating in 2003 in Washington, DC's Velvet Lounge, Blowoff started as a musical collaboration between Mould and Morel. The two DJ in tandem, laying down a signature mix of indie rock, electro, and house, accented by a series of artfully eye-popping vignettes projected throughout the club. With the focus firmly on cutting-edge music, dazzling live visuals by Nick Lopata, and stunning poster art by Baltimore-based artist Linas Garsys, the party has grown quickly and is now an established event in New York, San Francisco, Provincetown, Chicago, and San Diego. The Blowoff artist CD was also released in 2006 on Full Frequency Music.

Frank Dain Sings 'The Magic of Mathis' - The Metropolitan Room

Frank Dain returns to the cabaret stage in September with his first solo show in 13 years, in The Magic of Mathis. In four performances at New York City’s Metropolitan Room, Dain will bring fresh interpretations to such Johnny Mathis signature tunes as “Chances Are,” “It’s Not for Me to Say,” “Wild Is the Wind,” “Misty” and “The Twelfth of Never. ” Contributing creative arrangements is Dain's frequent collaborator, Musical Director Kathleen Landis. The Magic of Mathis will also include infrequently sung jewels as “99 Miles from L.A.,” “Yellow Roses on Her Gown,” “I’ll Be Easy to Find” and “Photograph,” all part of Mathis's remarkable 56-year career. Multi-award winning director/entertainer Lennie Watts is directing. Scheduled performances are at 7pm on Saturdays, September 8 and 15, and 7pm Fridays, September 21 and 28.

The Fresh Beat Band Live in Concert Tour Presented By Nickelodeon features Kiki (Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer), Shout (Thomas Hobson), Marina (Tara Perry) and Twist (Jon Beavers) performing The Fresh Beat Band hits from seasons one, two and three of the Nickelodeon live-action music series that teaches preschoolers about music appreciation. Songs performed include Here We Go, A Friend Like You, Bananas, and Just Like A Rockstar, among others. The first-ever The Fresh Beat Band soundtrack -- The Fresh Beat Band: Music From The Hit TV Show -- is currently available on iTunes and in stores everywhere. The album features 19 catchy, preschool-friendly tracks also culled from three seasons of the TV series and has been number-one on the iTunes Children's Music chart since its release in January.

Thursday, Sept. 6: Irondale Ensemble Project Members of the Irondale Ensemble, the resident company at the Irondale Center, revive last season’s smash musical theater work, Color Between the Lines. The piece is part of In Pursuit of Freedom, a collaboration with the Brooklyn Historical Society and Weeksville Heritage Center to tell the story of the abolitionist movement in Brooklyn. Thursday, Sept. 13: White Bird Productions presents Urbnergy, featuring Kat Ledell Urbnergy will feature the music of Kat Ledell - a combination of rock, folk, jazz, and funk. This Brooklyn-based group has some very impressive original music and will delight audiences with its uniqueness. ISSUE Project Room presents Michelle Amador Michelle Amador is a Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter dedicated to and inspired by the transformational nature of voice and song. Often using repeated phrases and minor changes in vocal intonation and rhythm in a seemingly standard song format, her performances invite the listener to observe time, words, intention, and their relationship to one another. Performing with Tim Bulkley on drums and Ben Campbell on bass. Thursday, Sept. 20: American Opera Projects Three opera singers will perform song cycles set to poetry written by young Brooklyn students mentored by writer and community activist Angeli Rasbury. Presented by AOP and the Walt Whitman Project. Mark Morris Dance Group The Mark Morris Dance Group will bring Brooklyn to its feet! Teachers will showcase three dance styles: African Dance, Modern Dance, and Zumba. Accompanied by live music, these interactive dance classes will be a fun way to try out your dance moves. Thursday, Sept. 27: Brooklyn Ballet Brooklyn Ballet’s Company and Youth Ensemble present Take Ballet to the Streets!, which will include excerpts from Brooklyn Ballet’s Hip-Hop Nutcracker, plus an excerpt from A History of Ballet in 9 Innings, performed this summer at the Brooklyn Cyclones MCU Park in Coney Island. Brooklyn Ballet is a professional, not-for-profit dance company dedicated to artistic excellence, education, and serving Brooklyn’s diverse communities. Thursday, Oct. 4: Dancewave The Dancewave Company, a pre-professional dance company composed of talented Brooklyn teens, performs excerpts from its repertoire by world renowned choreographers: Twyla Tharp, Annie-B Parsons, Andrea Miller, and Ronald K. Brown. Brooklyn Music School Brooklyn Music School performs an array of music and dance selections showcasing the amazing students and teachers of this 100-year-old performing arts institution.
