Watch 'Top Gun' on an Actual Aircraft Carrier

Perhaps you feel a certain need. Perhaps that need is one for...speed.

If that's the case, you'll want to be at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum when they kick off their outdoor summer movie series on May 22nd. Now in it's seventh year, the summer movie series is a free, fun-for-the-whole-family activity, and this year they have a superb lineup of aerospace flicks, including one that begs the question:

How cool would it be to watch "Top Gun" on an actual U.S. Navy aircraft carrier?

You'll find out on May 22nd, when the 1986 film starring Tom Cruise and Anthony Edwards turns the outdoor flight deck of the Intrepid into a metaphorical Danger Zone.

Doors open 7:30pm and the film will begin just after sunset. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis and guest are allowed to bring food and beverages to enjoy (though they ask that you leave the alcohol at home).

And starting this year, each film will be introduced by a special guest. In this case, the former astronaut and Naval aviator who was Tom Cruise's flight double in the movie.

A complete list of films that will be shown this summer is below. Note that prior to the doors opening, guided tours of the submarine Growler will be available at 6:00pm and 6:15pm. Tours require a non-refundable ticket and take place rain or shine.
