Principal photography has begun on “Very Good Girls,” written and directed by Naomi Foner, with Dakota Fanning, Elizabeth Olsen, Boyd Holbrook, Demi Moore, Ellen Barkin, Richard Dreyfuss, Clark Gregg, Kiernan Shipka and Peter Sarsgaard. Norton Herrick’s Herrick Entertainment is producing and financing the project with Michael London’s Groundswell Productions producing. “Very Good Girls” will shoot on location in New York.
“Very Good Girls” tells the story of two lifelong best friends, both determined to lose their virginity as a rite of passage into the adult world. When they fall in love with the same boy, their quest threatens to tear their relationship apart.
“We are proud to be producing this picture in New York, with such a talented cast,” commented producer Norton Herrick of Herrick Entertainment. “Naomi Foner is an extraordinarily gifted writer and we’re thrilled to be taking part in her wonderful story and directorial debut.”
Dakota Fanning (“Twilight Saga,” “The Runaways”) and Elizabeth Olsen (“Martha Marcy May Marlene,” “Silent House”) star as lifelong best friends, with Boyd Holbrook (The History Channel’s “Hatfields & McCoys,” “Milk”) playing the love interest. Demi Moore (“Margin Call,” “A Few Good Men”) and Academy Award-winning actor Richard Dreyfuss (“The Goodbye Girl,” “Mr. Holland’s Opus”) play Olsen’s parents. Tony Award Winning Actress Ellen Barkin (“The Normal Heart,” NBC’s “The New Normal”) and Clark Gregg (“The Avengers,” NBC’s “The West Wing”) play Fanning’s parents. Supporting cast includes Kiernan Shipka (AMC’s “Mad Men”) as Fanning’s sister and Peter Sarsgaard (“An Education,” “Robot & Frank”), who plays Fanning’s boss at her summer job. Jenny Lewis, formerly of the indie rock band Rilo Kiley, will serve as composer and music supervisor on the film.
Janice Williams, Lee Clay, Peter Graves, Hawk Koch, and Gale Anne Hurd are executive producers.
Norton Herrick, Michael London and Mary Jane Skalski are producing. Naomi Foner has written several screenplays, including “Losing Isaiah,” “Bee Season,” and “Running on Empty,” for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. “Very Good Girls” marks her directorial debut.
Herrick Entertainment produces and finances distinguished entertainment content, specializing in motion pictures and works for stage. The company recently completed principal photography on the upcoming feature “Nightlight,” a supernatural thriller written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods and produced by Norton Herrick. Projects currently in production and produced by Norton Herrick include: “Very Good Girls,” written and directed by Naomi Foner, with an all-star cast including Ellen Barkin, Richard Dreyfuss, Dakota Fanning, Clark Gregg, Boyd Holbrook, Demi Moore, Elizabeth Olsen, Peter Saarsgard and Kiernan Shipka and “2 Guns,” directed by Baltasar Kormákur and starring Denzel Washington, Mark Wahlberg, Paula Patton, Edward James Olmos, Bill Paxton and James Marsden.
Currently, Herrick Entertainment has several film projects in development, including “The Hollars,” written and directed by James Strouse. Past projects include “The Devil’s Double,” “The Moth Diaries,” ”Vanishing on 7th Street,” and “My One and Only.” As a Broadway production and financing company as well, Norton Herrick’s Herrick Entertainment has produced several successful and award-winning Broadway shows, including Broadway's most popular current spectacular, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark; Hair (Winner 2009 Tony Award - Best Musical Revival), Exit the King (Winner 2009 Tony Award - Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play - Geoffrey Rush) and West Side Story (Winner 2009 Tony Award - Best Featured Actress in a Musical - Karen Olivo).
Groundswell Productions is an independent financing and Production Company founded by Michael London in February, 2006 and headquartered in Los Angeles.
Groundswell has produced 11 films since its inception and its library includes “Milk” and “The Visitor,” both nominated for Academy Awards in 2008. Groundswell¹s latest film is “Lola Versus”, written by Daryl Wein and Zoe Lister-Jones and directed by Wein, starring Greta Gerwig, Joel Kinnaman, Hamish Linklater, Bill Pullman, Debra Winger, and Zoe Lister-Jones. Groundswell also has a number of projects in development including “Married and Cheating,” written and to be directed by Raymond De Felitta.
London, who serves as the company¹s CEO, is an Academy Award nominated producer who has produced such films as “The Illusionist,” “The Family Stone,” “Sideways,” “House of Sand and Fog,” “Thirteen,” “The Guru and 40 Days” and “40 Nights.”
