Thoroughbred racing aficionados should run to Empire City Casino and Yonkers Raceway for the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 4. A pair of special promotions have the central theme of the fabled “Run for the Roses,” known as the most exciting two minutes in sports.
Free Kentucky Derby Exacta Box: Beginning at 4:00 PM, the first 500 Empire City Club Members to visit the Gotham Palace Promotions Booth will receive one 2-horse, $2 exacta box ticket (total value $4 wager) for the Kentucky Derby. There is a limit of one ticket per Empire Club Member, while supplies last.
Fancy Derby Hat Contest: The Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY, has traditionally been known for the fancy hats worn by Derby-goers, especially, of course, the ladies. Empire City is hosting its annual “Fancy Derby Hat Contest” on May 4. Entrants can register between 2-4:00pm wearing their finest hat. Winners picked by a blue ribbon panel will be announced at 5:00 PM. First prize is $500 CASH, second prize is $250 CASH and third prize is $100 CASH. You must be 18 years of age or older to enter; and you must be present to win.
Dan Rooney’s Promotion: Guests who watch the Kentucky Derby in Dan Rooney’s Cafe and Bar at Empire City have the chance to receive a free $2 exacta box ($4 wager) ticket on the Derby. Beginning at 2:00 pm, the first 100 guests to purchase $20, per person, in food or drink will receive the wager. Each guest must spend $20 each in one seating to receive the free race ticket. Race ticket is valid for Kentucky Derby only. All free race tickets must be distributed by 5:30pm.
Empire City will also feature several iconic Derby drinks, including mint julep, peach julep and Kentucky lemonade in the Entertainment Lounge and public bar with a commemorative souvenir glass. Members and guests can take advantage of American Vodka specials Thoroughbred, American Julep and Southern Hospitality, as well as a trackside BBQ tent and beer specials.
