NYC Theater Notes: Priscilla in Pippin, Living on the Fringe & More

PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE PIPPIN

Priscilla LopezFor Tony winner Priscilla Lopez (A Day in Hollywood / A Night in the Ukraine; A Chorus Line) it’s never too late to step into the cast of Pippin. In 1974, the Bronx-born performer took over the role of Fastrada from Leland Palmer who originated the part; tonight she begins a limited run as Berthe, the fourth actress to assume the role in the Tony-winning revival, following in the show-stopping slippers of Andrea Martin, Tovah Feldshuh and, most recently, Annie Potts.

PHOENIX RISING

Ready for a really impressive box office bargain? Phoenix, Scott Organ’s one-act romantic comedy with dark undertones, starring Julia Stiles (10 Things I Hate About You; the Bourne series alongside Matt Damon) and James Wirt (who will be seen this November in the film Billy Bates – directed by Phoenix director Jennifer DeLia), announced it will be offering a limited number of tickets for $20 each.

Explains producer Rian Patrick Durham: “We passionately believe live theater should be accessible to audiences of all ages and incomes,” who goes on to say the hope is that by offering $20 tickets, the show will “…reach as many people as possible.”

And should you fall in love with Phoenix, in its current Off-Broadway run, you’ll want to make note that a film adaptation is currently under development. phoenixtheplay.com
