The Guides Association of New York City is celebrating its third annual International Tourist Guide Day (ITGD) with FREE walking tours on Thursday, March 13th. Visitors wanting to participate can click here to see schedule of tours.
Tourists need to RSVP by contacting the guide listed for each tour in advance to sign up for a specific tour on a first come basis, as groups are limited. Where public transportation is required participants will pay their own way.
This year they have 15 tours scheduled, including one in French and they will have tours in four of the five boroughs. Some of the places to be visited include, but are not limited to, the Brooklyn Bridge and Brooklyn Heights, Central Park, Columbia University, Grand Central Terminal, Grant's Tomb, historic St. George in Staten Island, Lincoln Center, Little Italy in The Bronx, Millionaire's Row on Fifth Avenue, Rockefeller Center, subway art, The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Devine, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Times Square and the Ultimate Greenwich Village ghost tour. Tourists are welcome to our open air conference room to get the real story and be able to ask questions.
ITGD takes place throughout the world to celebrate the foundation of the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations in 1985 (the Guides Association of New York City is a member of the WFTGA). In 1990, the first International Tourist Guide Day took place with 15 countries participating and this coming year’s International Tourist Guide Day will be celebrated by tour guides in more than 60 countries.
