Christopher Gallego at OK Harris Works of Art

Now through May 26, OK Harris Works of Art in SoHo, New York City, presents the works of New York-based realist painter and draftsman Christopher Gallego (American, 1959). His first with the gallery, the exhibition features 18 of the artist’s intensely observed and rendered charcoal and graphite drawings and oil paintings dating from 2002 to the present.

The exhibition tracks the artist's progress, inspired by his surroundings and studios in New York, New Jersey, Brooklyn, and the Hudson Valley. Gallego’s subjects range from Morandi-inspired still lifes of commonplace objects to haunting, large-scale studio interior paintings and his recent gritty charcoal depictions of distressed New York City crosswalks. Gallego has received fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation, the Pollock Krasner Foundation and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.  His work has recently been selected as part of a travelling exhibition of realist painters that will tour five major museums throughout China, including the World Art Museum, Bejing.
