IAN ANDERSON Ian Anderson brings Thick as a Brick to the Beacon Theatre. This tour will feature a more theatrical production with video and additional musicians, including Ian's band: bassist David Goodier, keyboardist John O'Hara, drummer Scott Hammond, and wunderkind guitarist Florian Opahle-- all of whom have performed with Ian on his solo dates over the years as well as having performed at various times as members of Jethro Tull. PICASSO BLACK AND WHITE Opening today at The Guggenheim, Picasso Black and White marks the first major exhibition to focus on the recurrent motif of black and white throughout Pablo Picasso's career. Surveying his oeuvre from 1904 to 1971, Picasso Black and White examines the artist's lifelong exploration of a black-and-white palette through approximately 115 paintings and a selection of sculptures and works on paper. CHICAGO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA AT CARNEGIE HALL For their final performance at Carnegie Hall this season, Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra open with Dvorak's Fifth Symphony before launching into two spectacular Italian works. While Respighi's Feste romane depicts four different Eternal City festivals with vibrant orchestral color and sparking rhythmic entery, Martucci's Notturno is a heart wrenching adagio, bittersweet and beautiful. 7pm. THE WHISPERS One of R&B music's most beloved and consistently popular vocal groups, The Whispers, performs at BB King Blues Club & Grill. They perfected their tight harmonies on the street corners in the Watts section of Los Angeles and in nightclubs in the San Francisco and Oakland Bay Area. Recording a string of singles for the Dore label between 1964 and 1967, the group amassed a following in the Bay Area, and in 1970 they achieved their first Top 10 R&B hit, "Seems Like I Gotta Do Wrong." 8pm. $45.
