This Week's Off-Broadway Openings: May 31st-June 6th

Amerissiah - Something beyond comprehension is happening in a Marble Hill, Bronx apartment. Barry Ricewater, a healthy 37-year-old businessman is purposefully dying of a treatable disease. He's become convinced that he's God and must return to heaven to save his corrupt family from prison -- a family who thinks he’s crazy until strange, supernatural phenomena begin to occur.

Another Part of the Forest - Lillian Hellman’s rarely-seen "prequel" to The Little Foxes tells the story of the most dysfunctional family in all of American drama: the notorious Hubbards, a wealthy, ruthless, and immoral southern clan, and their rise to prominence.

Dietrich and Chevalier - The Musical - Marlene Dietrich and Maurice Chevalier were top film stars at Paramount Pictures in the 1930s. Married to others, they fell in love and remained friends for life. This new musical by Jerry Mayer portrays the fascinating true story of their complicated relationship set against the backdrop of WWII. It includes many of their great signature songs, from “Fallling in Love Again” to “Mimi.”

Dreams of the Washer King - Caught in the space between the past and present, four people revisit one life-changing event. Playwright Christopher Wall’s vision unfolds among a field of capsized washing machines and a rainstorm of grass to reveal a haunting story of lost love and childhood dreams.

El Insolito Caso de Mis’ Pina Colada (The Preposterous Case of Miss Pina Colada) - Carlos Ferrari’s bitingly funny exploration of society’s frivolous consumption and obsession with appearance centers on one mother’s outlandish measures to ensure her daughter is crowned Miss Pina Colada. In Spanish with live simultaneous English Translation.

The Grand Manner - In 1948, playwright A.R. Gurney, then a young boarding school student, traveled to New York where he attended a performance of Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra, and then met the great stage actress Katharine Cornell, dubbed "The First Lady of the American Stage" by the legendary critic Alexander Woollcott. A mix of remembrance and imagination, The Grand Manner is a love letter to this fabled actress and a heartfelt look back at Broadway's glorious heyday.

Othello - The music of Vivaldi and the rhythm of the djembe interweave with Shakespeare’s elegant language in this tragic masterpiece. As characters dance through the compelling plot, this Oberon Theatre Ensemble production illuminates the fine line between the cerebral and the animal in all of us.
