Crazy Sexy Disco Runs Off-Broadway Sept. 23rd-26th, 2010

The highly anticipated debut of the Off-Broadway interactive musical-comedy Crazy Sexy Disco kicks off with an initial limited run this coming Thursday, September 23rd, 2010 through Sunday, September 26th at the Roy Arias Theater Stage IV at 300 W. 43rd St. in Manhattan.

Since its inception two years ago, Crazy Sexy Disco has been transformed into a hugely entertaining, high-energy theatrical production, allowing audience members to enjoy a trip into the disco nightlife and be a part of one young bartender’s dream of owning his own club in the late 1970s. Crazy Sexy Disco originally started out as a regular theme party, launched by three dancer/choreographers Jen James, Liz Piccoli and Svea Schneider, which then developed into a full scale dance production.

Highlighting classic disco tunes with a fusion of dance styles, the trio of choreographers formed an official theatrical company and brought in writer Sharon Cacciabaudo to create a full two-act script, with fully developed characters and historical realism, for the current production of Crazy Sexy Disco.

After seeing the John Travolta 1977 mega hit Saturday Night Fever in his small Midwestern hometown, Crazy Sexy Disco main character Jim Smiley is knocked spellbound by the film’s music, dancing and glittering attire! He hops on the first Greyhound for NYC, with a burning desire to open his own nightclub, just like the “Outta Sight” 2001 Odyssey in the film, but right on Broadway! He soon discovers it takes much more than a pipe dream to open a night club, and finds himself stuck tending bar in a run-down neighborhood dive in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

An inspiring cast of characters come through the bar, including his favorite bar patron, Jam-“a-licious” La Rue (a once promising singing sensation turned jingle crooner), who’s been embittered by her own floundering career circumstances. Enthusiasm once again takes root in Jim as he describes in vivid detail his fantasy club, painting a glorious portrait of possibilities should he ever get the green to back it up.

Suddenly, as if by magic, these pictures burst forth to life.  Jim and Jam find themselves transported into the flashing lights and the pulsating disco beat, surrounded by sexy dancers in their sparkling best, transforming the lack-luster hole-in-the-wall into the most spectacular disco  on earth. The reality of some wild, unexpected intrigue takes place at that corner bar in Brooklyn on that fateful night, while all in attendance experience a thrilling ride and learn some valuable life lessons along the way.

The current production of Crazy Sexy Disco stars Clark Feeney, Tonyia Rue, Amber Bloom, David Cavellin, Robyn Young and Ryan Braun and also features Rebecca Magazine, Joi Favor, Shelley McLaughlin, David Sincere Aiken, Demar Braxton and Jeff Cowans.  After this initial short-term run at the Roy Arias Theater Stage IV, Crazy Sexy Disco creators plan on setting up permanent theatre residence in NYC, while also touring in select cities around the country and internationally.

Thurs.-Sat. at 8:00pm, Sunday at 3:00pm. **Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com. For more info, visit www.crazysexydisco.com.
