Running through October 17th, the New York Botanical Garden (Bronx River Parkway (Exit 7W at Fordham Rd.), Bronx, or by Metro-North Railroad to Botanical Garden Station, 718-817-8700; www.nybg.org) is presenting The Edible Garden, an exhibition that celebrates growing and preparing good food, set across NYBG’s 250-acre garden landscape. The exhibition celebrates locally grown seasonal food through daily demonstrations from food and gardening experts; appearances by Mario Batali, Lidia Bastianich, Rick Bayless, Daisy Martinez, Dan Barber, Sara Moulton, and others during four festival weekends; and programs that demonstrate the bounty, economy, and nutritional value of edible plants. Featuring four spectacular kitchen gardens, The Edible Garden will teach visitors how to grow the best food at home. Proceeds benefit the Children's Gardening program. The aforementioned festival weekends are: Summer grilling opening weekend (June 19-20); Fiesta de Flores y Comida, a celebration of Latin American and Caribbean food and flowers (September 25-26); the beginning of the Family Harvest Festival (October 9-11); and the finale weekend (October 16-17). For more information and a schedule of events, visit www.nybg.org.
