Once upon a time, Republicans and Democrats got along in Congress, worked with Presidents of both parties and got things done.
MSNBC host Chris Matthews remembers those days—he was the Chief of Staff for Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill and has just written Tip and the Gipper: When Politics Worked, about how Democrat O'Neill worked with Republican President Ronald Reagan. How can today's politicians use what Reagan and O'Neill knew, to make progress today?
John Yemma, editor of the Christian Science Monitor, will moderate.
David Gergen is a professor of public service and director of the Center for Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School. In addition, he serves as a senior political analyst for CNN and works actively with a rising generation of new leaders. In the past, he has served as a White House adviser to four U.S. presidents of both parties: Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Clinton.
