One of Canada's most successful progressive rock bands, Saga has built up a loyal audience for its sophisticated music. Originally known as The Pockets, the quintet formed in 1977 from the nucleus of popular Canadian rock band Fludd. In June 1978, the band released its self-titled debut album. A modest success in Canada, it would eventually sell over 30,000 copies in Germany as an import. The band's 1979 follow-up Images at Twilight spawned the group's first hit in Canada with the lead single "It's Time," peaking at No. 84 in the Canadian Charts. Saga's subsequent string of releases throughout the first half of the '80s enjoyed critical acclaim, and the single "On the Loose" from Worlds Apart (1981) saw the band break through into the American music scene. Subsequent American hits included "Wind Him Up" and "The Flyer."
