Steely Dan will return to the legendary Beacon Theatre in New York City and perform seven shows beginning September 14 through September 23, 2011.
Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Steely Dan dazzled the public and critics alike in 2009 with their classic-albums-in-full "Rent Party Tour." Now the band is responding to overwhelming popular demand and returning to give fans more Steely Dan action with a new summer tour, Shuffle Diplomacy Twenty Eleven. This year's tour will showcase greatest hits and deep cuts alike; plus select cities including New York will feature performances of complete albums plus fan voting online to determine a night's set. Steely Dan masterminds Walter Becker and Donald Fagen have announced this year's program will also include an idealistic strategy for World Peace.
For Shuffle Diplomacy Twenty Eleven, Donald Fagen and Walter Becker are back with their awesome group of players, now dubbed the Miles High Big Band, and their saucy backup trio, the Embassy Brats. The Band and the Brats include Keith Carlock (drums); Jon Herington (guitar); Freddie Washington (bass); Jim Beard (keys); Michael Leonhart, Walt Weiskopf, Roger Rosenberg and Jim Pugh (horns); plus background singers Carolyn Leonhart, Cindy Mizelle, and Catherine Russell.
As part of their NYC engagement at the Beacon Theatre this year, the band will be playing special sets on each night. The September 14th show, entitled "Dawn of the Dan" will showcase tracks from the band's first three albums - Can't Buy A Thrill, Countdown to Ecstasy, and Pretzel Logic. On September 16, 19, and 20, the shows will feature full album performances of Gaucho, Aja and The Royal Scam respectively. On September 23, the band will play selections from Everything Must Go, Two Against Nature and The Royal Scam, along with additional favorites and selected hits.
The September 17th performance is billed as "Rarities Night" defined as the unreleased, the mythic, the reborn, the rarely-if-ever-heard; on this numinous Night of Nights, all will be revealed (along with additional selected favorites and hits).
By popular demand, Steely Dan is bringing back a request night on September 22nd where fans can vote for their favorite hits at www.beacontheatre.com/steelydan.
