Preschoolers will enjoy a reading of Richard Lewis' book, Play, Said the Earth to the Air, as think about the ways that air, light, colors, and sounds come together to create the world around us. They'll explore some natural materials and observe sculptures by New York City based artist Kathy Creutzburg before creating their own sculptures.
Based on the poem and recent book by Richard Lewis, Play, Said the Earth to Air is a performance piece created by The Touchstone Center Theatre Ensemble. The performance invites the audience to experience play through a combination of music, mime, narration, and movement. After the show, children will participate in a hands-on arts workshop to create a many-layered collage of visual images and words inspired by their playful natures.
Kids experiment with tiny technologies that have a big impact. They'll watch messy spills roll off fuzzy fabrics, play with hydrophobic moon sand, and build microscopes to see the world up close.
