In September 2011, cellist Matt Haimovitz and pianist Christopher O'Riley released Shuffle.Play.Listen - a boldly imaginative double album that blurs the boundaries dividing classical and pop music. The album unites Haimovitz, a groundbreaking, Grammy-nominated cellist, with O'Riley, the host of NPR and PBS's popular weekly radio and television series From the Top. The two performers, each a superstar in his own right, come together to plumb the virtuosic and lyrical possibilities of their instruments in an expansive two-disc set from Oxingale Records. All the arrangements for cello and piano were made with O'Riley's signature passion and finesse and realized with Haimovitz's uncompromising artistic depth. The collection spans an incredibly vast stylistic range, featuring tracks from composers like Stravinsky, Janacek, and Piazzolla on the first disc and artists like Arcade Fire, the Cocteau Twins, Radiohead, and A Perfect Circle on the second. Haimovitz and O'Riley also display their considerable improvisational skills in several tunes, including their nine-minute uncut interpretation of John McLaughlin's "A Lotus on Irish Streams."

One of the most anticipated collaborations of the 2011-2012 season, Haimovitz and O'Riley will tour extensively in major concert series and university residencies throughout the US. In addition, each continues to tour exhaustively as a solo artist in recital and as a concerto soloist. Shuffle.Play.Listen embraces a new kind of listening public that mixes Wagner with Lady Gaga on their iPods, exploring new sounds and moving comfortably between genres. Classical music lovers and adventurous music connoisseurs alike will want to shuffle, play and listen!
