Created and performed by Ben Spatz, founder and Artistic Director of Urban Research Theater, Rite of the Butcher is a fable about the power of fantasy as told by the Butcher -- refugee, criminal, and shaman -- through poetry, martial dance, and folk song. This interdisciplinary monologue for solo performer is a fictional memoir combining abstract imagery with physical and vocal performance to explore contemporary themes of war, violence, and mourning. This performance features multi-media visuals by The DLP.
