Bass-baritone Thomas Quasthoff unexpectedly retired from the stage in early 2012. His immense artistry is well documented in this program, comprising a recent master class on Schumann lieder; a 2007 recital of Schumann's Dichterliebe and two Brahms songs, accompanied by pianist Helene Grimaud; and orchestrated Schubert lieder, with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe conducted by Claudio Abbado in 2002.
Sarah Jarosz leaves audiences breathless with her skills on the octave mandolin, banjo and guitar, as well as with her songwriting. Already Grammy-nominated at 22, and a recent graduate from the prestigious New England Conservatory, her latest release Build Me Up From Bones is earning accolades for its dark take on contemporary roots music. Joining Jarosz for her American Songbook evening is contemporary folk-bluegrass duo The Milk Carton Kids, Joey Ryan and Kenneth Pattengale.
