The 2014 New York Guitar Festival kicks off at Kaufman Music Center's Merkin Concert Hall with a FREE, day-long marathon on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a focus on classical guitar in the Americas, with music of South America during the first half of the day, and North America for the second half. American guitarist's role in jazz, blues, folk and rock are well known, but major composers have written important works for the classical guitar: Steve Reich, Eliot Carter, George Crumb, Aaron Jay Kernis, Heitor Villa Lobos, Alberto Ginastera, Astor Piazzola and many others.
Venue Description: Located at Kaufman Music Center, Merkin Concert Hall hosts music and theatre events, including the series Broadway Close Up, and more. Its innovative programming, intimate scale and near perfect acoustics have earned it a reputation as one of New York City's finest concert venues.
