Sheila Canby, Patti Cadby Birch Curator in Charge, Department of Islamic Art. The glorious manuscript illustrations and album pages from the courts of the Safavid rulers of Iran are the subject of this lecture. Dating from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, they show the changes in style that occurred as the dynasty matured and became more open to outside influences. This lecture is supported by The Giorgio S. Sacerdote Fund. This lecture is presented in conjunction with the opening of the New Galleries for the Art of the Arab Lands, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia, and Later South Asia. 6pm.
