The guest speaker is Marje Monroe, founder of Children Online, which is devoted to the safety of children and teens online. She will offer her unique approach to Internet safety which combines a thorough understanding of Internet technologies, child development and counseling, and focuses on the impact of the internet on the social, emotional and language development of young people. While gathering informative and instructive research on texting and online behavior of children and adolescents and publishing curriculum guides and books for parents, including Racing to Keep Up - Strategies for parents to talk with their kids about technology use and ways to keep the home computer safe and Safe Practices for Life Online (Second Edition released June, 2012), Children Online has become a national leader in offering concrete and real-life strategies on this important topic.
During her talk, Ms. Monroe will provide: •the latest technology and child development research •workable and real-life guidelines and strategies to talk to your children and keep your home computers safe •a glimpse into the many activities, games, risks, networks and scams your children and teens face online and via cell phones •ways to create healthy and critical boundaries for your children's behavior online
Marje Monroe is a clinical social worker and educator with over twenty years of counseling, programming and teaching experience in schools. She is proactive in helping families and schools work together to promote the qualities of home and school life that nurtures the healthy, social and emotional development of children.
