HANDEL Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno, HWV 46a (The Triumph of Time and Truth)
Legendary early music specialist William Christie's annual residency culminates in a concert with Juilliard singers and members of his Parisian ensemble Les Arts Florissants alongside Juilliard415. Oboist Pier-Luigi Fabretti and harpsichordist Beatrice Martin from Mr. Christie's ensemble will lead coachings and sectionals. Composed over a span of half a century, Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno is both the first and one of the last works of Handel's oratorio repertoire. Composed in 1707, the first installment, HWV 46a, contains the aria "Lascia la spina"-the well-recognized tune the composer borrowed from himself in 1711 for the famous aria "Lascia ch'io pianga" from his opera Rinaldo.
