- Preserve your favorite seasonal ingredients year-round in this hands-on workshop - Take home jars of your fermented food and learn about the benefits of eating locally - Host Leda Meredith is the author of The Locavore’s Handbook Few things are more heartbreaking than craving your favorite food, then remembering it’s out of season for the next six months. Instead of spending big on fruits and vegetables grown thousands of miles away, you can enjoy your preferred produce year-round by learning how to deliciously and safely preserve them using lacto-fermentation (not nearly as complicated as it sounds, we promise). Leda Meredith, author of The Locavore’s Handbook, will teach you preservation methods in a hands-on workshop at a Brooklyn kitchen that you can carry out in your own apartment, no matter how small. Sourcing local ingredients from the Grand Army Plaza Green Market, she’ll tell you what’s best suited for a fermented transformation, then teach you how to make an apple chutney and spicy carrot kimchee tasty enough to eat straight out of the jars, as well as a provencal soup that is perfect for winter. After a relaxing afternoon with Leda, you’ll go home with reasons to eat more locally, lasting jars of delicious food, and a new sense of freedom from the usual culinary limitations of the seasons.
