The Bent Quill Players cordially invite you to the fourth meeting of the Classically Forgotten Collaborative Reading Series
For all those hearts and bodies aflame in the summer heat we present: House of Desires by Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz translation by Catherine Boyle With many thanks to Catherine Boyle and the people of Oberon Books.
Dona Ana and her brother Don Pedro have a problem. Pedro is in love with the beautiful Dona Leonor and Ana has thrown over a former lover in favor of the noble Don Carlos. The problem? Carlos and Leonor are engaged to each other, of course. So, what’s a pair of scheming siblings to do? Lure them all into the same household along with a scheming servant, a cowardly friend, and a protective father. Step into the House of Desires and you might get swept up in the madness.
First performed in 1683, House of Desires or Los Empeños de una Casa is one of the secular plays of 17th century New Spanish nun, poet, and thinker Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.
Saturday, August 25 Shetler Studios Shetler 1 7:00pm Light refreshments will be served If you would like to read a part (no preparation is necessary) see any of the Bent Quill company members upon arrival. No RSVP necessary, just show up.
