Tapestry Redefined: International Contemporary Tapestries

In the 20th century, tapestry revivals took place in the 1930s in France under the inspiration of visual artist Jean Lurcat, and in the 1970s, guided by American tapestry maker Gloria Ross. Ross paired major artists, such as Robert Motherwell, Louise Nevelson, and Frank Stella, with expert weavers to create tapestry editions.
