WHO: Dudley Mudd: Occupation Foole All-Ages Slapstick Show & Workshop; Walk Around Character Improv with the R&R Court Jester; Face Painting; Children’s Art Project: Deepening our Connections with Medieval Times; Adult Art Project: Drawing & Sketching in Three-Dimensional Space; Jews in the Renaissance Lecture (1450-1650) with The Creepy Bard David Mikofsky; Stage Combat Workshop; Henry Martin: How to be a Pirate Show; Community Cinema: The Agony and the Ecstasy; History of & Life at a Renaissance Faire Lecture, A Capella Concert: Sirens Of Sterling and all the usual weekly R&R activities!!! WHAT: R&R Saturdays are FREE at the JCC! Make your Shabbat afternoon special and share in our community. Workshop and Q&A to follow. Lobby History of & Life at a Renaissance Faire Lecture Hear ye! Hear ye! Ever wonder how Renaissance Faires got started or what life is like working at one? Now is your chance to get a behind the scenes look at an American amusement park like no other! L1 Classroom 1 Community Cinema: The Agony and the Ecstasy (Dir. Carol Reed, USA, 1965, 138 min) Charlton Heston stars as Renaissance artist Michelangelo, who begrudgingly paints the Sistine Chapel for imperious Pope Julius. The film focuses on the battle of wills between the perfectionist artist and the impatient Pope who commissions (and eventually commands) him to paint the famed chapel. L3 Classroom 1 Adventure Workshop with Randy Kiersnowski (Ages 7-10.) 7th Floor Reception Room 3 pm Adult Art Project: Drawing & Sketching in Three-Dimensional Space [Adult Symbol] During the Renaissance, artists learned to use linear perspective, the idea that converging lines meet at a single vanishing point and shapes get smaller with increasing distance from the eye, to help paintings accurately represent the world they saw around them. Practice these and other fascinating methods to create wonderful drawing for you to keep. L1 Adults Center Children’s Art Project: Deepening our Connections with Medieval Times (Ages 4 and Under) L3 Mixed Media (Ages 5 and Up) L3 Drawing and Painting 3:30 pm Henry Martin: How to be a Pirate Show Captain Martin instructs his audience in the ways of pirate life-- including pirate language, pirate walk, pirate song, and pirate swordplay! "How to be a Pirate" enthralls young and old alike with comedy, audience interaction, and even a touch of history! L2 Auditorium Storytelling for Families with Shawn Shafner 7th Floor Makom Stage Combat Workshop Discussion, choreographed fight and demonstration of Renaissance stage combat. Workshop and Q&A to follow. Lobby 4 pm Jews in the Renaissance (1450-1650) with The Creepy Bard David Mikofsky From the expulsions, restrictions on occupations, blood libels and pogroms to the mysticism of Safed, the rise of Jewish Urbanism and the writings of Spinoza- the Renaissance was a rich and complex time in Jewish history. The always entertaining David Mikofsky is our guide through the dark and deep days of the Jews in the Middle Ages. L1 Classroom 1 Dudley Mudd Workshop Take part in a physical comedy and juggling workshop along with a Q & A on performing incredibly stupefying and timeless acts for the enjoyment of others. 7th floor Reception Room Adult Art Project: Drawing & Sketching in Three-Dimensional Space During the Renaissance, artists learned to use linear perspective, the idea that converging lines meet at a single vanishing point and shapes get smaller with increasing distance from the eye, to help paintings accurately represent the world they saw around them.
