See tomorrow's choreographers today! 92Y hosts its eighth annual performance of works by promising high school choreographers in the New York area. This year, judges -- tap teacher Arleigh Rothenberg, NYC dance educator Rachel Wurman, Doug Varone dancer Julia Burrer (also the Artistic Director of 92Y's Harkness Repertory Ensemble teen performing group) and John-Mario Sevilla, the Director of the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Center -- chose 12 works to be presented. The students' dances deal with subjects like the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, how music and dance can motivate people to become leaders, teenage girls harming themselves, lynching, learning to have fun even in times of turmoil and "seizing the day."
Venue Description: Located on the Upper West Side, the 92nd Street Y is NYC's hub for lectures, talks, readings, literary events, classes, Jewish programs, food and wine tastings, and more. They also offer live music, dance performances, and more including the Art of the Guitar, the $5 Fridays at Noon dance series, and social events.
