Add to Calendar 10-08-2013 10-08-2013 15 Nick Lowe / The Crickets: The Farewell Show / Jason Isbell Nick Lowe cut his teeth in the UK punk and new wave scenes (producing The Damned and Elvis Costello's early albums) and then gained notoriety as a revered pop songsmith (thanks to gems like "Cruel to Be Kind"). His gift has borne real fruit in his mature, recent work. After forty years of writing songs, Lowe has it down to an art, creating and delivering clever rockabilly-powered tunes, bittersweet ballads, and songs worthy of midcentury country at its best. Catch the legendary rock and roll band, in their last show before retirement. Founded by Buddy Holly in the Texas panhandle, The Crickets know their way around Western swing, good old-fashioned rockabilly, and country, but became the founding fathers of rock. With fans from Waylon Jennings to Keith Richards (The Stones got their name from a Crickets song), this landmark group's influence is hard to overstate, with hits like "Peggy Sue" and players who are regularly cited as rock's best. After making a name for himself in the Drive-By Truckers, Jason Isbell has struck out on his own. A native of soul and rock hotspot of Mussel Shoals, AL, the guitarist and songwriter comes from a long line of Southern musicians and finds a clarity and honesty that echoes the best of classic country and rock. http://www.cityguideny.com/eventinfo.cfm?id=136832 Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts true DD/MM/YYYY
