Description: For this rare New York appearance, Emmanuelle Haim leads her Baroque ensemble, Le Concert d'Astree, in Handel's infrequently heard Aci, Galatea e Polifemo, the Italian-language predecessor to his most renowned English opera, Acis and Galatea. Based on Ovid's Metamorphoses, the cyclops Polyphemus kills Acis in a fit of jealousy, but the divine nymph Galatea turns her departed love into Sicily's Acis River, immortalizing their story in the flowing of time.
