The New Juilliard Ensemble opens its 21st season with United States premieres by British composer Judith Weir and Finnish composer Magnus Lindberg, who was the 2011-12 composer-in-residence for the New York Philharmonic. Both works are commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society for the occasion of its bicentenary and the centenary of composer Benjamin Britten. NJE founder and director Joel Sachs also leads a world premiere written for the ensemble by American composer Carson Cooman.
