A five-week performance festival featuring the finest in innovative dance.
This season's Harkness Dance Festival takes you deep inside the creative process in its innovative Stripped/Dressed series, curated by Doug Varone. The five festival artists, each with widely differing approaches to choreography, demystify the process. First, the artists discuss their inspiration -- showing excerpts and talking with collaborators - -all in an informal, stripped setting, with no lights or costumes. In the second part of the evening the artists present the same work entirely dressed in its completed theatrical form.
Schedule: Doug Varone and Dancers (2/22-24); Faye Driscoll (3/1-3); Liz Gerring Dance Company (3/8-10); Ronald K. Brown/Evidence, A Dance Company (3/15-17); Kate Weare Company (3/22-24).
Venue Description: Located on the Upper West Side, the 92nd Street Y is NYC's hub for lectures, talks, readings, literary events, classes, Jewish programs, food and wine tastings, and more. They also offer live music, dance performances, and more including the Art of the Guitar, the $5 Fridays at Noon dance series, and social events.
