NYC Plug-in Day, taking place on Sunday October 16th, is a free festival celebrating the arrival of electric cars in the New York area and an answer to New Yorkers’ growing curiosity about how the promise of electric vehicles applies to our area.
NYC Plug-in Day features a full showcase of electric vehicles currently or soon to be available in New York City from GM, Mini, Nissan, Smart, Tesla, and more. Also on display will be electric vehicles used in the New York City municipal fleet, including the NYPD, Parks Department, Department of Sanitation and Department of Transportation as well as electric vehicles from Hertz on Demand’s car sharing program. Representatives from ConEdison, Recharge Solutions and other electric car charging infrastructure providers will be on hand to answer questions as well.
New York area electric vehicle owners will share their unique experiences with owning and driving electric cars in New York. Experts will also provide demos and discuss the unique benefits and challenges of electric vehicles in this city, the science and technology behind electric vehicles, and what to expect in the next generation of electric vehicles.
NYC Plug-In day will also offer activities for kids and families, including face-painting, scavenger hunts, quizzes, gourmet food vendors, and some hands-on time with electric cars.
NYC Plug-in Day will take place on Pier 54, a prime 56,000 square foot location within Hudson River Park at 13th Street and in walking distance of the new High Line Park, the Meatpacking District, and Union Square. NYC Plug-In Day will be open to the public from 11 AM to 4 PM. At 12pm, Assistant Commissioner of NYC Parks & Recreation Keith Kerman will offer brief remarks.
“New York City is a place where trends are set, and electric cars help us set the example for a cleaner, quieter, and one day gasoline-free city” says Nathan Pinsley, lead organizer of NYC Plug-In Day and consultant to the City on electric vehicles. “People from the New York City area are increasingly curious about the possibility of switching to an electric car, and hearing from existing owners is a great way to show that electric vehicles can now fit in the lifestyle of an everyday driver.”
Visit www.nycplugin.org for more information and an event map. Owners of electric vehicles can sign up to bring their cars and any New Yorkers can sign up to volunteer.
