Description: This exhibition and sale showcases approximately 100 extraordinary Japanese ikebana baskets, including rare baskets from the early 1800s (predating the Meiji Period), as well as others by masters from the mid 19th to the mid 20th century. The rare and difficult-to-find early baskets, known as Karamono, are similar in form and execution to bronze vessels from ancient China. One exceptional piece is by the master Hayakawa Shokosai I, son of a samurai, who elevated basket making to a high art.
