Inside Scoop: Grand Central Terminal Audio Tour

Replacing two previous railroad stations, the current landmark Grand Central Terminal opened in 1913. The construction of the terminal spurred a real estate boom, with famous hotels and landmarks like the Chrysler Building—directly across the street—popping up throughout the neighborhood. After attempts were made to tear down the terminal, Jacqueline Kennedy rallied to its defense in 1968, saving the landmark from the untimely death that the Pennsylvania Station experienced. Grand Central's extensive restoration includes many new shopping options as well as a fully stocked food court in the lower level.

The Grand Central Terminal Tour is the official tour of the station. The one-hour self-guided audio tours take visitors across the terminal's many historic points, including the famous Whispering Gallery and astronomic ceiling, the Biltmore Room, and the iconic information clock. The tour is perfect for that "something else to do" in New York problem that hits visitors in the blocks around Times Square and the Theater District. Handicapped accessible. Food court available.
