Bill Charlap Trio - Village Vanguard
September 15, 2019 - New York

As a unit, this must be one of the best piano trios ever, and certainly as instantly recognisable as any of its great predecessors. Charlap’s touch on the keyboard is light, almost stealthy, even when playing full chords, but always firm, clear and beautifully articulated. With the spirited support of bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington (famously unrelated), the total effect is just perfect. As always, Charlap’s playing provides convincing proof that it is still possible to create fresh but pertinent treatments of well-known standard songs.

September 16, 2019 - New York

Remarkable. Infectious. Soulful. Just some of the words critics have used to describe Stop Time, the new album by singer, songwriter and pianist Jon Regen, out April 28, 2015 on Motéma Music. Produced by Mitchell Froom (Crowded House, Paul McCartney), and featuring Davey Faragher and Pete Thomas from Elvis Costello's band the Imposters, Stop Time finds Regen at the peak of his songwriting and pianistic powers, with ten original tunes that brim with humor and heart. Songs like "I Will Wait," "Morning Papers" and "Stop Time" prove Regen a master of the sticky lyric and the penetrating piano hook, recalling the work of forebears like Billy Joel and Randy Newman while simultaneously showcasing Regen's singular take on modern love. In the words of storied Rolling Stones keyboardist Chuck Leavell, "Stop Time never stops pleasing the ears."

With the Silver Arrow Band you'll get the best musicians in the country, playing your favourite music. The Silver Arrows play a wide variety of tunes, but our trademark specialty is up-tempo festival-style music - capable of everything from chart classics, funk grooves, soul, swing/jazz to current top 40 and dance hits. On one night we might be playing completely 1950s rock n' roll, and on the next night, only 80s hits. Or a mixture of eveything- you really have to see it live to understand!

Adequate Fur - The Groove
September 17, 2019 - New York

All Ages Adequate Fur is a unique project that pushes the boundaries of genre and songwriting, with lush female vocals floating atop of a rock trio, and is tied together with genuine, brutally honest lyrics that contemplate life, personal growth, trauma, letting go of toxic people and situations, choosing happiness, and evaluates and era of political and societal disarray. Formed in 2016, songwriter, vocalist, and trumpeter Teagan Taylor and her co-writer and guitarist (and life partner of 12 years) Sean Salant had been writing for this project for years, looking for the right bandmates to encapsulate the vision. Along came Phil Lherisson (Astronaut Down, Octopus 2000) on drums, and not too long after Doug Berns (The Yeahtones, EMEFE, Doug Berns Band) joined on the bass to solidify the low end. AF has no loyalty to genre, but their music flows along a sea of jazz-influenced harmony and pop vocals to create a sound that is Adequate Fur.

Kyle Daniel - Sportsmen's Tavern
September 18, 2019 - Buffalo

"The gravely twang of Steve Earl with Chris Stapleton's range, plus bigger hooks." — ROLLING STONE What's there to say when you've conceded to the hardships of life? Kyle Daniel wrestles with this question throughout his sophomore EP, aptly titled What's There to Say? Delivering his message via bright melodies and a wall of electric guitar, Daniel navigates the trials and tribulations of being a working musician, failed relationships, being surrounded by addiction and growing up in modern-day America. Wearing his heart on a tattered sleeve, he pairs everyman lyricism with a rusty vocal akin to Blackberry Smoke, Will Hoge and Chris Stapleton, bristled with a warm guitar bravado. It comes as no surprise that he's road-dogged as a guitarist for Clare Dunn, Jimmy Hall and Casey James, as well as opened for the likes of Jason Isbell and Miranda Lambert. These are rich, authentic stories told from the perspective of someone who's wrestled with the ups and downs of being a touring musician.

- Funk 'n Waffles
September 18, 2019 - Syracuse

Ages 18 and Up The LoveTones: It all started with my plan to develop a duo act in the style of the classic Joe Pass/Ella Fitzgerald performances of yesteryear. I had heard SeQuoia Iman singing briefly at an open mic night, so I reached out to her with an open invitation to sing some songs with me, and see what happened. She had been wanting to learn some jazz standards, and I found that she possessed a quality much more interesting than merely a great voice; she had a great attitude. I was all set to become the world's first jazz vocal accompanist to perform exclusively on harpguitar.... However, after our first rehearsal, it quickly became clear that our two voices together were actually much more compelling than anything else we were doing. SeQuoia had been singing contemporary gospel for years, and I had been writing and singing folk songs for years

Nash began by impersonating the artists she heard on the FM dial — with particular emphasis on Tanya Tucker and Patsy Cline — before graduating to her own gigs at the age of 13, when she began singing with a country band during a series of weekly shows in New Braunfels. Within a few years, she'd also joined a band called Sixpence None the Richer, which ultimately introduced the pop world to her signature, sparkling vocal and led a successful run that included Top 5 hits like "Kiss Me" and "There She Goes."

Kermit Ruffins & the Bbq Swingers - Sony Hall
September 21, 2019 - New York

All Ages From playing himself in the HBO Series Treme, to barbecuing outside his bar, Kermit's Treme Mother-in-Law Lounge, to sitting in with Jon Batiste and Stay Human on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the trumpeter/vocalist keeps himself busy when he isn't on stage doing what he does best—entertaining and sharing his love of life with the world. Ruffins continues making his imprint on the world with wider exposure including appearances on Bravo's Top Chef and on the soundtrack to Disney's Jungle Book with Bill Murray and Christopher Walken. He personifies the laid-back vibe of New Orleans. But he did not come by his gifts easily. Ruffins did his homework and developed his stage persona and musical act by studying artists who came before him. He watched videos of Louis Armstrong and Cab Calloway until the tape wore out, cut his teeth busking the streets of the French Quarter, and apprenticed on stages with local legends "Uncle" Lionel Batiste and Danny Barker.

Pianist Renee Rosnes is one of the essential pianists and composers working today. Stereogum reports, "Her style at the keyboard is powerful and modernistic, combining classical technique and sharp, clean phrases with a dramatic compositional style. The music is reminiscent of mid '60s Blue Note albums by players like Joe Henderson, Andrew Hill, Bobby Hutcherson (with whom Rosnes worked), Sam Rivers, Wayne Shorter and Tony Williams; it swings, and never loses touch with the blues, but it's also abstract and biting.
