Like Duke Ellington, she has tailored her compositions to highlight the individually expressive voices of her soloists. Schneider and her orchestra have established a distinguished recording career including four GRAMMY Awards. In February 2016, Schneider won for Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocal for the track "Sue (Or in a Season of Crime)" recorded by the Maria Schneider Orchestra and David Bowie; and for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album for her album The Thompson Fields. Come and join us in our annual celebration of our generation's greatest composer/arranger. "As with Pat Metheny and Bill Frisell, and not infrequently Aaron Copland, too, Schneider's music is about a more innocent and unconflicted America, still hoping that humanity might one day get into the kind of harmony with itself and its environment that she hears in her head."
