Moving from Australia to London, Jordan met Bradley Zero, founder of South London record label and party Rhythm Section. Bradley encouraged him to try his hand at a collection of dancefloor-driven tunes which became the EP "Joy, Ease, Lightness", released by the label at the end of 2016 under the alias Dan Kye. WOLF! ft. Scott Metzger - Garcia's at The Capitol Theatre
September 16, 2017 - New York

WOLF! (guitarist Scott Metzger, bassist Jon Shaw and drummer Taylor Floreth) represents everything that eludes chest-thumping power trios and even many small jazz ensembles. Nobody shows off. There are no fireworks, no screaming solos. In their place, the music of WOLF! overflows with atmosphere—a wisp of Parisian swing, a dreamy seaside mist, a Tarantino moonlight spell, creamy, Metzger's creamy gorgeous texture, as always unadorned by effects, is so spare it's almost not there. Who exactly are the well-matched members of WOLF!? First of all, they're all Brooklyn natives, an important point by Metzger's measure. "In Brooklyn, you've got some of the best in the world playing pretty much any genre you can imagine," he says. "The bar is high here. Nobody wants to hear your flashiest shit. Nobody's going to be impressed. If you're going to play a solo, you'd better really say something. Otherwise, nobody cares because everybody here has heard it all." Just as important, all three broke into music as sidemen — professional musicians rather than wannabe stars. Metzger has performed countless sessions and shows with artists as diverse as Trixie Whitley, Phil Lesh & Friends, Moby a... (read more)

Chicago - the Musical - New York City Theatre
Through September 30, 2017 - New York

An intoxicating mix of murder, sex and razzle dazzle, Chicago is Broadway at its most iconic. A winking satire of celebrity culture, it's the tale of two beautiful criminals in the Roaring Twenties who plan to get away with murder by putting on one hell of a show. Known for its slinky Bob Fosse choreography, lacey costumes and finger-clicking score, Chicago will show you a good time. Debuting on Broadway in 1975, Chicago was initially overshadowed by the year's other big musical, A Chorus Line, but is now firmly established as one of the Great White Way's most instantly recognisable shows. It's Broadway's longest-running ever American musical, and was turned into an Oscar winning movie in 2002, starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Richard Gere.

Mccoy Tyner - Blue Note
Through November 27, 2017 - New York

Jazz pianist McCoy Tyner is widely considered one of the finest and most influential pianists in jazz history. His signature booming left-hand and fleeting right created a unique sound that can be heard on his recordings as a sideman with the John Coltrane Quartet in the 1960s and on his 80-plus albums as a leader. Tyner's most recent project for McCoy Tyner Music/Half Note Records is his first solo effort in almost a decade titled Solo: Live From San Francisco. The release is the third for his label and features eleven solo vignettes recorded at the Herbst Theater in 2007. Tyner's blues based piano style, replete with sophisticated chords and an explosively percussive left hand has transcended conventional styles to become one of the most identifiable sounds in improvised music. His harmonic contributions and dramatic rhythmic devices form the vocabulary of a majority of jazz pianists. Born in 1938 in Philadelphia, he became a part of the fertile jazz and R&B scene of the early '50s. His parents imbued him with a love for music from an early age. His mother encouraged him to explore his musical interests through formal training. At 17 he began a career-changing relationshi... (read more)

David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band - Birdland
Through December 25, 2017 - New York

nspired by the noble jazz pioneers Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton and their colleagues, David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band breathes life and passion into America's own great art form. Legendary record producer George Avakian describes the band in this way: "There has never been a band quite like this one. Most groups, past and present, stick to one style. Some current groups attempt to recreate early recordings in their entirety. These guys do neither. Inspired by divergent bands of the 1920s and 30s, you'll hear them swing a variety of styles in music by a wide range of composers, always true to the joy and heart of the music." Now in its 17th year of residency at Birdland, the weekly post-workday engagement is the city's best musical bargain! Tuba player David Ostwald leads a rotating lineup that features talents such as clarinetist Anat Cohen, trombonist/vocalist Wycliffe Gordon, pianist Ehud Asherie, drummer Marion Felder and more!
